Sophie, The Smartest Dog I Know!
If ever a dog was in the right place at the right time, it was the day an extremely malnourished, covered in fleas, and filthy one walked into our daughter’s RV Resort campsite at morning coffee time. Of course, they became her family of protectors, and from that moment on she would never be mistreated again.
After a crazy wild bath and flea treatment, she slept peacefully for probably the first time ever in her life. Snug under her new blankie surrounded by kind humans. And now she had a name, “Sophie”.
Every effort was made to find her a good home or locate her owners. She was taken to the Humane Society to see if she was microchipped and she was not. They had no room for her, and no other local shelters or rescue groups did either. She was posted on Facebook Pet Finders but no response.
Honestly, I don’t know what would have happened if the owners had actually tried to claim her. In my fantasies it’s a royal ass whooping. There is a special place in hell for anyone who mistreats animals. Obviously she recently had a litter of puppies then just dumped.
No one ever “needs” another dog to take care of, but the decision was made to take her in while still trying to find this sweet girl a good home. At this point, Sophie hugs our granddaughter’s legs whenever she tried to leave the room and won’t let go. I said she was smart!
Weeks are going by and she has now had all her shots and been spayed. The vet says she is basically still a puppy herself, about a year old! Efforts to find her a new home have kind of slacked off. Sophie has won them over, she is now has her own clan.
We all had our theories of where she came from and guessed at what type dog she is.
(Jerry Springer Voice) The Results are In:
Sophie is gaining weight and that beautiful brindle coat is so shiny. So sweet and smart and acting like the puppy she never got the chance to be. She loves long rides in the truck and her favorite hobby is chasing lizards. (Let’s hope she never catches one!)
She is also part of an even larger family at Route 50 Saloon. This “dog walks into a bar” and everyone loves her.
